7 can’t miss events in Canary Wharf this summer

Samuel Johnson once said “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life” but with so much to see and do in our capital, becoming tired of London is highly unlikely!

There is so much to choose from when it comes to making the most of your spare time. Fancy playing a new sport? Learning a new skill? Or perhaps you just want to listen to your favourite music in a park with a delicious picnic?

You don’t need to look far to do any of the above this summer, with tons of great events in Canary Wharf planned for the next couple of months. The hardest decision you’ll have to make is what to do first…

Canary Wharf events

Minigolf

Who doesn’t love mini golf? (Trick question – EVERYONE loves mini golf). This summer head to Columbus Courtyard (close to Westferry Circus) and try your hand at the 9-hole course. Keep an eye out for the JOHNS&CO team showing off their (questionable) golfing skills!

Date: Ongoing
Time: Mon-Fri 12-7pm / Sat-Sun 12-6pm
Address: Columbus Courtyard, Canary Wharf

Big screens

The summer of sport is well underway, but who says you need to miss out just because you’re at work? Instead of another rushed lunch eaten at your desk, take a break from the norm and enjoy a picnic or dinner in the park and catch the following events on the big screen:

  • Wimbledon
  • World Paraathletics Championships
  • British F1 Grand Prix
  • Tour de France
  • Highlights of the British Open Golf Championship
  • World Athletics Championships

Date: Daily
Address: Cabot Square and Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf

Outdoor theatre

Banish those Monday blues by catching one of the free outdoor shows in Canada Square Park, running every week from the 24th July. With performances of Shakespeare classics, such as a musical Mods & Rockers adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (definitely not to be missed!), ‘The Comedy of Errors’ (with a Mariachi band!) and ‘The Taming of the Shrew’. Not a fan of The Bard? Jane Austin’s ‘Emma’ is also on the line-up.

Date: 24 July, 7 August, 14 August, 21 August
Time: 7pm
Address: Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf

Classical music

Find your inner maestro with Alda Dizdari and some of Britain’s rising classical music stars as they perform in Canada Square Park in July. It’s a free event so bring along a picnic and enjoy a baguette with your Bach.

Date: 26 July
Time:12:30-2pm
Address: Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf

Street velodrome

Why not channel your inner Bradley Wiggins and give track cycling a go this summer in Montgomery Square? Whether you want to test your speed in a qualifying session or prefer to play it safe and watch from the side-lines, you’re guaranteed a day of fun.

Date: 8 and 9 August
Time: 10am-6pm
Address: Montgomery Square, Canary Wharf

Jazz festival

Find your groove at London’s largest free jazz festival, coming to Canary Wharf in August. Spend the weekend in Canada Square Park enjoying the music of Poppy Ajudha, the Riot Brass Band, Wild Card and much more.

Date: 19 and 20 August
Time: Saturday 2-10pm / Sunday 2:15-9pm
Address:Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf

Pop up painting

Ever looked at some graffiti and thought ‘I could do better than that’? Well here’s your chance to prove it with Pop up Painting!

There’s much more to graffiti art than scrawling your name on a wall. This event will teach you all about spray painting and give you a chance to get creative and practice urban street art in the park (on canvas, obviously!).

Tickets cost £12 and are available from seetickets.com.

Date: 14 September
Time: 1-2pm (arrive 12:45pm)
Address: Jubilee Park, Canary Wharf
