London marathon shows off splendour of the capital

This Sunday, around 36,000 runners will descend on London for one of the most famous marathons in the world.  Starting in Blackheath, London marathonhrough The City, finishing 26.2 miles later on the Mall.

Tens of thousands of spectators are expected along the route, but as well as enjoying the thrill of race day, the London Marathon is a great opportunity to enjoy the sites of London as well as experience a number of its property hotspots along the way.  JOHNS&CO has homes for sale and rent in a number of areas along the route.

At the halfway spot, runners will be passing through Wapping, home to the Ballymore development, 21 Wapping Lane where we are currently marketing a number of homes.

Wapping is one of London’s gems, steeped in history, but juxtaposed with modern, contemporary living. Its stunning location, situated right on the River Thames is extremely convenient for travel to the City or Canary Wharf. It has seen a popularity boom in recent years, resulting from an increase in luxury housing and new bars, restaurants and entertainment on offer for singletons, couples and families of all ages. There are number of good spots to enjoy a drink while watching the runners go by – such as the historic The Prospect of Whitby and Town of Ramsgate pubs.

Miles 15-20 sees runners head to the Docklands and Canary Wharf area. Just east of the runners is New Providence Wharf, where JOHNS&CO has an office. We manage a number of properties in the development, and also have a number for sale in the forthcoming Providence Tower residential building. The location is great, with views out to the o2 and Greenwich, and a fully managed health club, gym and pool onsite. The nearby Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel is a good spot for a drink and some food.

The final few miles weaves through the City of London, past some of the capital’s most famous landmarks – Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, then down the Embankment and into the Mall. A number of the JOHNS&CO team will be down on Sunday, cheering on friends (and strangers), there’s no better way to enjoy the sights of London, and soak in the atmosphere of the world’s greatest city!
