Cut the commute

Close proximity to work is often cited as a key determining factor for tenants in selecting rental accommodation. A study taken in 2018 revealed that almost 70% of tenants live within 10 miles of their workplace, with an average of 30% living within two miles.

This however does appear to be region specific;  only 23% of London tenants live less than two miles from work whereas in Yorkshire and the Humber a whopping 37% live less than two miles away from the office.

On the flipside, improvements in technology and an increased ability and tendency to work from home have opened up new opportunities. As companies allow more of their employees to work remotely for all or part of the week, commuters can live in the area they’ve always wanted and journey into the office only a couple of days a week. Indeed, 10% of tenants live more than 50 miles from work and 4.9% of tenants live a staggering 200 miles away from their place of work!
