London’s Most Exclusive Pool: Embassy Gardens
One of London’s most impressive and distinctive 21st-century developments, stands the Embassy Gardens, with incredible views of Battersea, Westminster and Central London. Embassy Gardens is based in the heart (and is the flagship) of Nine Elms on the Southbank regeneration area, which comprises thousands of luxury homes, workspaces, and amenities. The construction of the US Embassy building within the Nine Elms area help anchor the development as a true geopolitical district – and somewhere the whole city is very excited about.
Not only is Embassy Gardens one of the most impressive, prominent and prestigious places to live, with floor-to-ceiling windows and skyline views flooded with natural light, but the residents of the Embassy Gardens apartments in London will also benefit from a wealth of amenities including a cinema, gym, lounge, concierge service and notably, London’s Most Exclusive Pool.
The transparent pool sits on the Sky Deck and stands 35 feet tall. The revolutionary Ballymore Embassy Gardens pool allows you to swim in mid-air above the city, with panoramic views all around the pool walls. It can be described as the perfect escape from the busy London life, with a roof-top oasis and a private bar. If you’re a night owl, the roof-top bar is open till late, with parties and events a strong option to attend.
Opening in 2021, the sky pool in Nine Elms is set to make Embassy gardens one of the top luxury apartments in London and is a world-first for architects and developers across the globe.

Creating London’s Most Exclusive Pool
Tristan Stout, the Senior Development Manager at Ballymore, had the idea to create an outdoor swimming pool on the rooftop of the two Legacy buildings, for the residents to relax and unwind. Whilst planning and calculating his idea with architects from Arup Associates, they realised the swimming pools would be too small and it most likely wouldn’t work out.
Tristan and his team decided the best route of adding a rooftop swimming pool, was to create a pool that stretches between the two buildings, so you could even swim from one building to another. This idea revolutionised Embassy Gardens, with the world’s first ‘Sky Pool’ located right here in Nine Elms. As different ideas developed, they eventually decided to use an acrylic structure, for a transparent, glass pool. They wanted pedestrians to be able to look up and still be able to see the sky without a big, opaque swimming pool blocking their views, whilst allowing the residents in the pool to still be able to look down at the impressive London landscape
Engineers from Eckersley O’Callaghan drafted the detailed drawings to bring the idea to life, then the rest is history!
Weighing 50 tonnes, the 25-metre long Embassy Gardens swimming pool sits within a 14 metre gap between the two buildings, which can be seen from a far distance with the Embassy Gardens pool offering five modes of lighting.
Brian Eckersley, the Director of Eckersley O’Callaghan and one of the Sky Pool structural engineers involved in the project, says “‘There’s never been something transparent spanning two buildings like this. Once you swim off, you can look right down. It will be like flying.”
Now commonly referred to as the Embassy Gardens ‘sky pool’ or ‘the Nine Elms swimming pool between buildings’, the luxury feature is compared to as a trophy attraction by many, as it breathes new life into the area and has become an exciting prospect for many around the world.

Europe’s largest regeneration zone
Before planning and development of the Nine Elms district and Embassy Gardens, the area was commonly thought of as ‘wasted’ with no real purpose. It has now developed into an incredible residential development and is considered Europe’s largest regeneration zone, with over 18,000 homes and 39 development sites across 561 acres and the world’s first floating ‘sky pool’.
The leading regeneration zone of Nine Elms brings in around 25,000 new jobs, improved transport links, restaurants, schools and green public spaces with landscaped gardens. Nine Elms brings a fresh, vibrant and energetic sense of community amongst its occupied residents.
