Pan Peninsula – More Than Just A Landmark

Since its opening in 2009, Pan Peninsula has become one of the most desirable places to own and rent property within Canary Wharf. Located on the Isle of Dogs, this is one of multiple high-rise residential developments that have been constructed in the area in recent years.

For many people, Pan Peninsula filled the gap when it came to providing genuine high rise, high-quality London residential accommodation. However, standing head and shoulders above the rest, this development is, and has become, far more than simply a landmark.

Keep reading to learn all of what the towers have to offer and why so many people are on the lookout for Pan Peninsula rent opportunities.

The Story Behind Pan Peninsula’s Development

The people of London were crying out for a high-rise London residential property which would mirror Canary Wharf in its ability to serve as an exceptional landmark of quality for the city.

The designers behind the project were Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, with construction beginning in 2005. The structural engineer responsible for the build was WSP Cantor Seinuk.  However, it was Irish property firm Ballymore who was responsible for the overall development.

The story behind Pan Peninsula’s architectural inspiration came from the famous high-rise residential buildings seen in North America and South-East Asia.

Pan Peninsula is comprised of two towers of different sizes, giving it a “little and large” architectural design which has become a trademark of the landmark’s image. The taller of the two towers, the East Tower, is comprised of 48 storeys and stands at a remarkable 147 metres tall.

This East Tower actually stands above the towers of the Barbican Estate and is the 26th tallest building in London. The West Tower is comprised of 38 storeys and stands at 122 metres tall.  The top of the towers themselves have been constructed to resemble two lanterns illuminating the city. High-tech LED lighting features sit on the roofs of the towers, gradually changing colour throughout the night.

There is no doubt that Pan Peninsula is London’s most well established residential answer to Canary Wharf’s iconic status. Other East London hotspots are also increasing in popularity. For example, more developers and residents are showing interest in London City Island Development, catching onto its well sort after status.
